Ferret locating device

A young man thought he was on to a winner when he bought a ferret locating device - a bleeper tied round the ferret’s neck. The theory was that the bleeper signal would be picked up by a hearing aid type device carried by the man.

But the ferret disappeared down a rabbit hole and no tell-tale bleeps were heard ... only faint signals from a Russian radio station.

The Hertfordshire Chief Trading Standards Officer said: Colleagues in Scotland knew the supplier - an inventor who just about qualifies as a mad professor.

His bleeping golf balls were no more successful. They were just as prone to lying undetected in the heavy rough as their less technically advanced cousins.

And the story did not even have a happy ending. A refund offer on the ferret device was made but could not be taken up. The bleeper was lost with the ferret.
